A Wave of gratitude for the Splash makers!!

Thank you to the 60 people (and a few who couldn’t attend in person but sent donations) who celebrated a National Maritime Day at our Spring Splash at the Greenwich Water Club helping to raise money for student scholarships. The new space was beautiful, the sun was shining and the water views gorgeous.  What better way on National Maritime Day to pay tribute to our maritime history, celebrate the present, than to gather to support the next generation of maritime professionals. We are very grateful to our sponsors who helped make the event a success: MTM Maritime and Mystic Partners (Wave Sponsors) Thomas Maritime, Blue Ocean Partners, Dorian LPG, Easterly and Womar (Splash Sponsors); The American Club, Cozen O’Connor; Custom Fuels, DNB, Fairfield Chemical; First Citizens Bank, Flagship Management; The Marshall Islands Registry; Marine Money; Monjasa; Moran; Seacor; and Veson Nautical (Ripple Sponsors); Tim and Irene Brennan, Jack &Kathy Noonan and Lorraine Parsons (Personal Sponsors) Our thanks to the following who donated to the silent auction: Carnival Foundation, Pickleball America, Glander International, Norton Rose Fulbright, John Kulukundis, Seastreak, Jim Lawrence and many Stamford restaurants. A special thanks to Carol Zerbo at Charles Weber for soliciting numerous restaurant gift certificates for the event. Many generous and lucky people went home with some wonderful bargains from the silent auction.  Winners don’t wait; use those gift certificates!

Calling all host companies!

Summer is that time of year when students are seeking internships. If you are hosting a summer intern that you would like the CMA EF to help financially support or you would like to host a summer intern, please reach out to Beth@cma-edu.org. More information on our internship program is available at  https://cma-edu.org/maritime-internship/.

CMA Picnic on July 11!

On July 11 at the CMA picnic at the Stamford Yacht Club there will be a 50-50 raffle and another opportunity to help support the CMA EF. The money raised at the picnic will help support those students working as interns at maritime companies. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Cash or checks made out to CMA Education Foundation are appreciated for purchasing raffle tickets. Last year’s winner went home with over $1,000! Try your luck and all for a great cause.

Scholarships

My thanks to Molly McCafferty who chaired the Scholarship committee.  We received nearly double the applications this year and fortunately our scholarship committee loves to read. We are pleased to announce that through fundraising and a one-time grant of $30,250 from First10Forward, the CMA EF is awarding over $80,000 in scholarships, a record high. We couldn’t do this without the support of our donors and the tremendous efforts of our volunteer Board. Thank you all very much! Please watch for a complete listing of the 43 scholarship recipients in the next newsletter, website (www.cma-edu.org) and profiled on our social media (Instagram: cmaeducationfoundation and LinkedIn: CMA Education Foundation).

Board Update

We are pleased to announce that Lorraine Parsons, former CMA Education Chair, has stepped into the role of CMA EF Vice President. She brings her many talents of organization, attention to detail, fundraising, and event planning to the Foundation. Congratulations Lorraine and thanks for all you do and will continue to do for the Foundation.

Wishing all the dads, and those that father, in any way, a very Happy Father’s Day! Happy Summer to all!

With sincere gratitude,
