You could sea the future in the next generation at the CMA Shipping 2025 conference.

On Wednesday Midshipman Brian Son of the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy presented his paper, “The Increasing Trend of LNG Dual Fuel Containerships” answered a few questions and collected $2500 in first place prize money.  Later that afternoon, SUNY Maritime graduate student Szu Yu “Charlotte” Chen shared her analytical approach to the “Impact of Various Macroeconomic Factors on the Baltic Dry Cargo Index” and collected $1500 for second place. Third place winners Rylie Durant, Ryleigh Benson and Natalia Gallardo, students at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, presented their paper “The Effects of the Houthi Attacks in the Red Sea” on Thursday afternoon and shared the $1,000 third place prize. Cash prizes are generously sponsored by d’Amico Shipping.

It was wonderful to see faculty and students engaged at CMA Shipping as well as the support of so many former CMA Presidents! In addition to the research presentations, students were represented on panel discussions about social media, communications and artificial intelligence. Faculty and students from Webb Institute, USMMA, SUNY Maritime and Maine Maritime attended, toured the exhibits and networked. Both Massachusetts Maritime and SUNY Maritime had active and engaging exhibit booths. My personal thanks to students Brian Son (USMMA) and Malcolm Blackwell (SUNY Maritime) who helped set up and take down the CMA EF/CMA booth, put Spring Splash invites and CMA EF information on Gala dinner tables and generally lent a helping hand whenever needed.
