We join the Lawrence family and larger shipping community in mourning the loss of our CMA Foundation Director and friend, Jim Lawrence. Jim loved the maritime community, and he loved building community. He valued people, supporting education, making personal connections, sharing ideas, conversations, stories and knowledge. His boundless positive energy and enthusiasm were contagious. As we remember Jim’s impact on each of us, let us be reminded to “Be the things you loved most about the people who are gone. “

Scholarships
My personal thanks to Molly McCafferty who chaired the Scholarship committee and continues to read each application and essay since inception. The Board is pleased to announce that the CMA EF is awarding $50,000 in scholarships this year. We couldn’t do this without the generous support of our many donors and the tremendous efforts of our volunteer Board. You should all be proud! We present the 2025 scholarship recipients comprised of high school, undergraduate and graduate students, representing 17 states and attending 9 different schools providing a maritime related education.

Calling all host companies!
Summer is that time of year when students are seeking internships. To date we have 8 interns registered this summer. If you are hosting a summer intern that you would like the CMA EF to help financially support or you would like to host a summer intern, please reach out to Beth@cma-edu.org. More information on our internship program is available at https://cma-edu.org/maritime-internship/.
CMA Picnic on July 17!
At the picnic there will be a 50-50 raffle with an opportunity to support the Foundation and our summer interns working at maritime companies. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Cash or checks made out to CMA Education Foundation are appreciated for purchasing raffle tickets, but credit cards will also be accepted. Last year’s winner went home with over $1,400! Try your luck and all for a great cause.
Cheers to Jim Lawrence, dads, grads and summer!
Sincerely,
Beth Wilson-Jordan
