While many of us, myself included are lucky enough to take some time off to recharge, many students have been busy with internships this summer. Thanks to the members and host companies who make the effort to host students and offer them an experiential learning opportunity in our industry. While not all internships have been completed, please meet some of the student’s the CMA EF has supported this year to date.

CMA Picnic Winners!

It was wonderful to see so many CMA members and CMA EF supporters at the picnic on July 17. Thank you to all who purchased 50-50 raffle tickets and tried the Corn Hole Toss in support of the CMA Education Foundation internship stipend program. My sincere thanks to Todd McKenna, Old School Brokers for sponsoring the Corn Hole Toss prizes, Diana Esteves, Charles R. Weber, and Sam Jones, Gettysburg student intern at Womar for help selling 50-50 raffle tickets and to Massachusetts Maritime students Dylan Taylor and Ed Keller (currently interning at American Club) for running the corn hole toss. The lucky 50-50 raffle winner was Cesar Capio of Hudson Structured Capital who received $840. The corn hole toss raffle winners received cash prizes, Old School Broker mugs and t-shirts: Greg Keuhhas (Plaza Marine) $100, Evan Reilly (Moran Towing) $75, Jordan Lister (intern at Moran) $50.  With the 50-50 raffle, corn hole and generous donations received that night, we raised $1,645 for internship stipends. Thank you all!

Jim Lawrence Memorial Scholarship

We are in the process of establishing a scholarship in Jim Lawrence’s name to be awarded annually to a student who embodies the qualities we will miss most about Jim. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation in honor of Jim, you can do so at https://cma-edu.org/donate/ , by mailing a check to CMA Education Foundation c/o Connecticut Maritime Association 100 First Stamford Place, Suite 600 Stamford, CT 06902 or by contacting Beth@cma-edu.org for wire transfer details.  You can include a note designating your donation be used for this purpose. Thank you to those who have already donated and sent such touching notes. More information to follow.

We sincerely appreciate all our donors and supporters. Tax deductible donations can be made on our website www.cma-edu.org, when renewing your CMA membership, by mail or ACH or wire transfer.
