CALLING ALL PAST CMA and CMA EDUCATION FOUNDATION INTERNS!
We want to hear from you. If you were a CMA or CMA EF intern in the past 35 years, please contact Jim Lawrence (JLawrence@mtinetworkusa.com) or Beth Wilson-Jordan (Beth@cma-edu.org). If you hosted and/or trained a CMA/CMA EF intern let us know.
The CMA has been supporting interns since 1984 and in 2011 the CMA Education Foundation (CMA EF) took over the helm. Together these two associations and our members have been advocating for and supporting interns in the maritime industry for nearly 40 years. For instance, did you know that Matt McCleery, President of Marine Money, and Blue Sea Capital, got his start in this industry as a CMA funded intern? Matt and the Marine Money team continue to support the Foundation and host interns.
Where are those early year circa 1980, 1990 or early 2000 interns today? What did those internships mean to you? Did they help you secure a full-time position in the industry? Did the internship inspire a passion for the shipping industry? Do you have a funny experience, or inspiring story to share? Have you been inspired to pay it forward by hosting an intern, donating to the CMA Education Foundation to support future interns, or serving on the CMA or CMA EF Boards?
Help us share our collective intern stories. They are just like the familiar “sea stories” you may have told or heard, only they’re “land based,” likely less embellished, and may start with, “When I was an intern…”
Past CMA and CMA EF Interns, where are you now? Where has your journey taken you? Please reach out. We would love to hear from you.
More information on our internship program can be found at https://cma-edu.org/maritime-internship/
You can see some of our recent interns and the companies that hosted them on our Instagram @cmaeducationfoundation.
We do need your financial support to continue to provide maritime internships and scholarships. An internship can be like planting a “maritime” seed and a scholarship like watering it. Please help us by hosting or funding an intern; planting seeds so we can Sea Our Future. As we approach the end of 2022, please consider the CMA EF in your planned end of year giving. Donations can be made at www.cma-edu.org, or when renewing your CMA membership. Robert Louis Stevenson said, “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” Let’s plant some seeds!
On a somber note, we recently learned of the passing of CMA member Arthur Allen. Our condolences to his former colleagues, Kings Point classmates, friends, and family. Thank you to those who thoughtfully donated to the CMA Education Foundation in memory of Artie.
Sincerely,
Beth Wilson-Jordan
Executive Director
