NYSE – Bell Ringing
I’m writing this the day after celebrating July 4 and the day that Captain Frances Yates, a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy accompanied by current midshipwomen and fellow women graduates rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. This event celebrated 50 years of women at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the first service academy to accept women, two years before any of the others. Thank you to the brave women like Captain Frances Yates who accepted the challenge to be FIRST. I am honored to have followed in your footsteps and grateful to be a member of this sisterhood.
CMA Commodore Jack Noonan was also a member of the USMMA class of 1978. CMA is fortunate to be led by our President Sandi Ennor, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate herself. All fine examples of leadership and service to country, community and CMA!
Likewise, the CMA community is no stranger to NYSE bell ringings. Recently, Hafnia and Dorian each had the honor. Congratulations!
CMA Picnic
This Thursday, July 11 at the CMA picnic there will be an opportunity to help support the CMA EF and our summer interns. There will be a 50 -50 raffle. The money raised at the picnic will help support those students working as interns at maritime companies. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Cash, venmo, check and credit cards will be accepted. Take a chance for a great cause!
Scholarships
The CMA EF Board is proud to announce the distribution of $82,500 in scholarships to 43 students to be used towards their maritime education. This is the largest distribution of scholarship in the history of the CMA EF in terms of dollars and number of students supported. We could not have done this without the support of our generous donors and the one-time grant received from First10Forward. Thank you to all who give to the CMA EF. You collectively make this happen.
