It was great to see so many of you at the CMA Summer Picnic. On behalf of the Board, thank you to all who supported the Foundation by purchasing raffle tickets and participated in the silent auction and to Brian Devine of Norton Rose Fulbright who donated the Yankee tickets and Joe Gross of d’Amico Shipping who donated the framed ship prints. Congratulations to Hew Crooks of Ridgebury Tankers who received $1,090 as the 50/50 raffle winner, Todd McKenna of Glander who won the Yankee tickets and Peter Clements of Castor Group who took home the framed ship prints. Thank you all. Your donations supported our scholarship and internship programs. Thank you also to Stephanie Jordan and Diana Esteves for their assistance in selling raffle tickets.
As a maritime recruiter, I am seeing experienced maritime personnel shortages both shoreside and at sea. Many companies are seeking experienced talent that can hit the ground running and contribute on day one. It is critical that we give students from maritime academies and other institutions the opportunity to gain real world work experience and exposure in our industry. Please visit our website www.cma-edu.org to learn about hosting interns. We request that companies reach out (Beth@cma-edu.org) and register with us at the start of the internship. Here are a few of the interns and the companies that hosted them this year.
- Stephen Michael (The American Club)
- Jack Zola (Charles R. Weber Company -Greenwich)
- Aiden Gardner (Charles R. Weber Company – Houston)
- Cynthia T. Olowu (Berman Legal)
- Gavin Hamilton (Fairfield Chemical)
- Matt Cooper (Fairfield Chemical)
- Nadia Bjarnadottir (NAMEPA)
- Teagan Church (NAMEPA)
- Valeria Herrera (NAMEPA)
- Kiernan Gallaher (True North Chartering)
August is back to school time when many are purchasing school and dorm supplies via Amazon. Perhaps you (or someone in your company) shops Amazon for items for the office, home, or home office. Please consider using Amazonsmile.com (it uses your same Amazon account) and select the CMA Education Foundation to receive 0.5% of your eligible purchases from the Amazon Smile Foundation. Rest assured we don’t see your name or what you purchased, and this doesn’t increase the cost of the items to you. You can even change your charity at any time. Amazonsmile is such an easy way to support our Foundation’s programs. Every bit helps and it all adds up.
